Healthy Families is for California children under the age of 19. The child's family income must fall within the Healthy Families Income Guidelines. Minors without parents can qualify on their own. Their legal guardians, foster parents, or step-parents are exempt from income guidelines. Eligible applicants must meet citizenship or immigration guidelines as well. They cannot be eligible for Medi-Cal. They cannot have had group health insurance within the last 90 days. The AIM Program covers pregnant women and Healthy Families covers children born to mothers enrolled in the Aim Program.

Healthy Families covers preventive care as well as comprehensive major medical services:

  • Routine Health exams
  • Allergy testing and treatment
  • Prescription Drugs – 30 day supply, 90 day maintenance drugs
  • Dental & Vision Care
  • Mental Health
  • Hospital Inpatient
  • Outpatient Surgery
  • Lab and X-ray services
  • Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Physical, Occupational, Speech Therapy
  • Ambulance

Premiums range from $4 to $15 a month per child, up to a maximum of $45 for a family. There is a $5 co-payment required for most services.

Healthy Familiesrenews form every 12 months. Members will get a renewal form 60 days prior renewal time.
