Colorado Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) Health Insurance Program

CHP+ is a health insurance program for uninsured children in Colorado. Applicants must be age 18 or less, do not qualify for Medicaid but whose family income falls. within established income guidelines. An eligible child must be a U.S. Citizen and certain qualified aliens. Pregnant women can also qualify for the CHP+ program.

CHP+ coverage can start the same day as the application is received, but if a child has been covered on a group health insurance plan he or she must wait 90 days from the termination of coverage if the employer paid 50% of the premium.

CHP + provides preventive care as well as comprehensive medical services:

  • Immunizations
  • Dental, Vision, and Hearing Aids
  • Doctor Visits
  • Prescription Drugs
  • In-Patient Hospital
  • Lab and X-Ray

Premiums are $25 for one child and $35 for two or more children. Doctor visit copayments are between $1 and $5.

The term of coverage is 8 months. A new eligibility application for renewal coverage is mailed 90 days prior to expiration.
