Virginia Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS) Children's Health Insurance Program
FAMIS is for uninsured Virginia children under the age of 19. The applicant's family income must fall within the family income guidelines. Children must also be US citizens or qualified aliens. Applicants who had previous group health insurance may have a four month waiting period.
FAMIS covers:
- Office Visits
- Well-baby check-ups and Vaccinations
- Hospital care
- Prescription drugs
- Diagnostic labs and x-rays
- Emergency room
- Dental and vision
- Mental health
No enrollment fees or monthly premiums are charged to FAMIS members. Co-payments range from $2 to $5 for some services.
Coverage lasts up to 12 months at a time and requires a renewal application showing that the family still meets eligibility requirements.
