California Major Risk Medical Insurance Program (MRMIP)
Coverage
- An HMO plan is available through Blue Shield of California, Contra Costa Health Plan, or Kaiser Permanente.
- A PPO plan by Blue Cross of California. Plan has no deductible and pays 85% coinsurance for most covered expenses. Office visits have a $25 co-payment. The annual out of pocket maximumis $2,500.
- After the 36 months on MRMIP enrollment, members must select a guaranteed issue plan from these participating companies.
Eligibility
- California residents only
- Not eligible for Medicare
- Not eligible for COBRA or CalCOBRA
- One of the following conditions must be met: a) denial letter of denial from an insurance company within the past 12 months, b) were declined for coverage by another health insurance company within the past 12 months, or c) were offered individual health insurance at a premium higher than the MRMIP rate
