My name is Phil Daigle. I founded Healthcare Shopper in 1998 to fill a need to provide a source of information for individuals and families who were shopping for health insurance. Most of these shoppers were buying medical insurance for the first time without the direction and support of their employers. They needed to be able to compare prices among several health insurance companies and to compare health plan benefits on an apples-to-apples basis. So we created spreadsheets similar to those used by HR professionals. The internet provided the perfect way for individual health insurance shoppers to access the health plan and rate comparison tools that we developed.
While HealthcareShopper.com was one of the pioneer web sites for health insurance shoppers, we are by no means unique. Today, many other insurance agents and brokers offer similar health insurance websites by subscribing to third-party data services. However, we continue to stand out in several ways.
Service During the Sale
Very few people apply for health insurance online without assistance. Most want answers to their questions and concerns. Some want the advice of an expert. So generally, people call our 800 number during the shopping process. They are sometimes surprised and usually quite pleased when their call is answered by a "live" person - one of our licensed health insurance agents right here in our call center - who is immediately ready to help them. Our agents' expertise is second to none because of our constant training and the fact that they specialize in individual health insurance day after day. Once insured, our customers get our support when things go wrong - perhaps billing gets messed up or claims are not handled properly. We are advocates for our customers. One or more members of out team will stay with the issue until it's resolved. We can't guarantee that the outcome will always please our customer, but we get the best outcome we can.
