During enrollment, members may choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP) who may provide routine care, coordinate care and provide referrals to in-network specialists and facilities. During an emergency or urgent care situation, members may receive approval to use out-of-network services in an HMO/Network plan.
CIGNA's Open Access Plans give members the option to choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP) to serve as a personal physician and help coordinate health needs. No referrals are necessary to see specialists in the network. Members Just choose the participating doctor prefered and make an appointment. Members have the option to see any licensed physician choosen outside of the Open Access Plus network but out-of-pocket costs are higher than in-network coverage. Emergency care is covered 24 hours a day, no matter where the member receive it. You may go to any emergency facility, anywhere.
CIGNA Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans offer the freedom to visit any licensed provider. A member does not need to choose a primary care physician (PCP) or need a referral to see a specialist. Even emergency services and urgent care are covered at the in-network benefit level.
