How PPO Plans Work
PPO means Preferred Provider Organization. When you enroll in a PPO plan, you'll have access to a network of "preferred providers," including family practice doctors, specialists, hospitals, other medical professionals. Most major health insurance companies have state-wide networks of preferred providers.
For a look at some of the networks in your area check our online provider directory.
In-Network or Out-of-Network Coverage
PPO plans include two levels of coverage, In-Network or Out-of-Network. Your PPO plan will pay for a larger share (coinsurance) of the cost of your medical care when you stay within your PPO network. However, you may choose to see any provider you wish, if the provider is out-of-network, you'll pay a larger coinsurance.
